This project will construct a health clinic in rural Cameroon to serve a village of 2700 people, of which one-third are children. There are currently no health facilities in the village of Tobeh, Cape Cameroon and surrounding suburbs, and the community must walk up to 5 kilometers for basic health services. Malaria is a huge concern in Cameroon after HIV, 3.3–3.7 million people infected per year from malaria alone, and half a million people in 2019 were HIV positive and 90% of these infected are between the ages of 15 to 24. (“UNAIDS”, 2020). We will provide basic medicines, surgeries, maternity care, and mosquito nets, and much more. Having access to a clinic will significantly decrease deaths from malaria, typhoid, and many water-borne infections.
There are currently no health facilities in this village, our yearly support to the village is not enough because we do not have a permanent facility to provide ongoing treatment and follow ups. Women, men, and children must walk at least five to seven kilometers to the nearest health facility in Tiko town center and Mutengene, respectively. Despite the fact that they are highly preventable and treatable, malaria and other waterborne diseases are rife and particularly affect the children of the village. The village also has a secondary school that serves five villages and there are no health services or health education for these adolescents.
Solution
Our project will construct a health dispensary, so local people will have access to basic health services (i.e. treatments for malaria, cholera, TB, measles, STDs, etc.) It will serve as a center for many kids identified as high risk in remote villages in Cameroon who can not afford healthcare.
Long-Term Impact
This project will increase the overall well being of the village by helping pregnant women have safer births, providing preventative interventions and health education for malaria and HIV, immunizing children, and providing treatments for waterborne disease, etc. The clinic will also contribute to the local economy by keeping people healthy enough to work through the agriculture season and not fall victim to illnesses that keep them from tending their fields. We need $50.000 by the end of 2022 to secure start begin the contract. A philanthropist is matching any donation dollar to dollar from now till December 31st for up to $10.000. Please help us reach our goal by giving generously.
With your help, we are advancing our mission goals by providing access to healthcare to the underserved communities of rural Cameroon. Many children from the remote villages in Cameroon that we reach, will be able to have a secure recovery clinic.
